Passenger cars in 1996 will contain an average 952 lbs. (114 kg) of aluminum, a 32% increase over 1991, according to a study conducted for the Aluminum Association by Ducker Research Co. Light trucks will average 241 lbs. (110kg) of the light metal, a 45% increase from five years ago. By manufacturer, GM represents 36% of the current automotive total, Ford 31 Chrysler 16% and transplants the remaining 17%.
